Collaborations

My friend and fellow Indianapolis artist Kat Silver asked me if I would be interested in doing some collaborations for a local exhibit.  I absolutely LOVE her work, so I jumped at the chance.  She is a very skilled artist with a wonderful sense of whimsy, so we decided I would do the background landscapes, which are what I do best, and she would finish it with people, animals, etc., depending on what the piece looks like it needs.  I can’t wait to see what we come up with.  I think my part is finished, and now Kat will add her lighthearted magic!

Here’s the start of part 2:

Art of the Ages

Wow  What a great event and what a lovely setting.  We had a great turnout for WOIA presents Art of the Ages.  If you are ever in Indianapolis, be sure to check out The Athenaeum.  The building is stunning and the arts space is just ethereal.  I am so honored and thrilled to have some of my paintings there for the month of April.

Art of the Ages

I am so thrilled to be one of the contributing artists for this event, and I’m hoping to have completed two more pieces before the opening night.  If you happen to be in Indianapolis, the Athenaeum is a very cool historic building and worth visiting in its own right.  Rejuvenation Indy will have art there as well.  Please come check it out.  If you can’t make it to the opening reception, the exhibit will be there the whole month of April.  I’ll be there with bells on!

Art of the Ages

This is a very exciting exhibit that I am thrilled to be part of.  Re-Generation Indy is a fantastic program that provides art opportunities to young people.  I believe, and research has shown, that participating in art in any form is essential for maximum psychological and cognitive development of children, so that they can feel part of it, rather than just observing politely and quietly from a distance.  I haven’t decided yet which pieces I will be showing in this exhibit, but if you happen to be in the Indianapolis area on April 7, please stop by The Athenaeum for the opening reception.  There may even be some live music next door at the Rathskellar.

The Athenaeum is a historic building in downtown Indianapolis that was designed by the architectural firm Vonnegut (Bernard Vonnegut Sr. was Kurt Vonnegut Jr’s grandfather) and Bohn and is listed in the National Register of Historic places.

WOIA Presents: Art of the Ages

WOIA presents another event at the historic Athanaeum in downtown Indianapolis in conjunction with ReGeneration Indy a group of local artists that lead affordable art workshops and host Youth Art Shows. There will also be 5 youth artists on display during the opening show.  If you happen to be in or near Indianapolis on April 7, please come by and check this out.

Happy New Year

I’m full of creative ideas right now, and very excited about approaching painting in different ways.  An old dear friend mentioned to me recently that she loves my abstract paintings more than any others.  Most of the paintings I’ve done to sell or to give as gifts have been of landscapes that have special meaning to the recipient, but the ones that have been the most fun for me have been the abstracts.  Here’s to a new year of painting!   This is a work in progress inspired by a photograph by one of my favorite New Orleans photographers, John Snell, who has graciously given me permission to use his photographs.  Check out his work.  You will understand why people have a hard time leaving Louisiana.

Indiana Interchurch Center Gallery exhibition: Home

I am SO excited.  I found out today that this painting has been accepted for the exhibit of women’s art called “Home.”  The cherry on top was the email I got today from Frank Relle, of Frank Relle Photography, who told me he loves the painting that was inspired by one of his photographs.

Pull Up A Chair

I was honored to be included in this event  – a storytelling variety show.  Among the other storytellers were a comedian; a singer; a Guerilla Girl; a flutist.  This is a picture of me telling the story of Hurricane Katrina from the eyes of a native New Orleanian, and sharing my paintings, The Katrina Trilogy

Alice Through the Looking Glass Ceiling

The premiere event for the Women of Indianapolis Arts took place last night, October 8, 2016, with art exhibitions by yours truly, as well as other talented female-identifying artists in the Indianapolis area. It was a huge success with a great turnout of all ages. Our website is now public and will be a source of information about what this dynamic group is doing, and provides individual bios for female artists in the area. http://womenofindyarts.com/artists-1/

Check it out and if you’re looking for a female artist for a particular project, (and it’s not in my repertoire, haha) look there first.
